Donald Trump: Requests military resources for protection during campaign

Trump's team is in contact with the White House Chief of Staff and the acting Director of the Secret Service, asking for military resources to ensure his protection

Newsroom October 11 10:37

Donald Trump‘s campaign team has requested a military aircraft and vehicles for his protection during the final weeks of his campaign, according to reports from the New York Times and Washington Post.

This request follows two assassination attempts against the Republican candidate. Last month, Trump’s associates stated that he was briefed by intelligence officials about alleged assassination threats from Iran.

A Secret Service spokesperson, responsible for the protection of presidential candidates, said Trump “receives the highest level of protection” but confirmed that his team has requested additional resources.

U.S. President Joe Biden, speaking to reporters at the White House, said he has ordered security services to protect Trump as if he were the sitting president. “As long as he doesn’t ask for an F-15, I’ve instructed the Department to give him whatever he requests as if he were the sitting president. He’ll get whatever he needs, if it falls under that category. No problem,” Biden said to reporters at the White House.

According to the New York Times, Trump’s team is in contact with White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients and acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe, requesting military resources for the Republican magnate’s protection. They mentioned that Trump has been forced to relocate, reschedule, or cancel campaign rallies due to a lack of adequate security, according to these sources.

Trump is also asking to expand the no-fly zone over his residences and campaign rally venues, as well as for bulletproof glass at events in battleground states, according to the Washington Post, which cites emails and unnamed sources.
