Mike James praises Athens: “It’s my favorite city, I went out every day when I was with Panathinaikos”

The star of Monaco reflects on his time in Athens

Newsroom October 31 06:24

Mike James has lived in Athens for a short time but hasn’t forgotten the city.

In recent years, Mike James has been the star of Monaco, hoping to lead the team to the pinnacle of European basketball. Every summer, there are rumors linking him to Olympiakos, but his heart belongs to Panathinaikos. The American shooter, who came close to playing for the French National Team, fondly remembers the greens and Athens.

Mike James played for Panathinaikos during the 2016-17 season and again in 2018. Speaking to “SWEEK,” he reminisced about Athens and the outings he enjoyed while he was a player for PAO:

“Athens is my favorite city. It has many options, and you can do anything. During my first stint with Panathinaikos, I went out a lot, and I was surprised that Giannakopoulos didn’t mention it (in the interview he had). I was out every day, and I remember him coming to talk to me about it, saying, ‘Mike, you’re out every day,’ and I told him, ‘I’m just so excited!'”
