Floods in Spain: Residents prepare for a new round of heavy rainfall – Red alert sounds again

Train services and flights have been suspended - Operations to recover missing persons continue

Newsroom November 4 10:57

In the aftermath of the natural disaster, and with despair and anger overwhelming them, people in Spain are going through Hell. In a matter of hours they have seen their properties disappear, facing a storm of unprecedented proportions that has claimed the lives of more than 200 people.

With the trauma of the deadly floods still to heal, a new, albeit milder, rainfall cycle is expected in Spain.

Already a message has been sent out for the Barcelona area warning residents of severe flooding.

Specifically, the warning is for the southern suburbs of the city.

People are advised to avoid canyons and canals.

Spain’s transport minister has suspended train services in northeastern Catalonia.

“Do not travel unless absolutely necessary,” was the notice issued to the population of the region of eight million people.

Footage on social media showed heavy rainfall covering roads with water.

At the same time, around 50 flights due to take off from Barcelona’s flooded El Prat airport were cancelled.

Several major roads were closed due to the flooding.

It will be recalled that last week people were trapped in cars and houses as the waters swept everything in their path.

Six days later, the search and rescue operation continues for an as yet unknown number of missing people, with thousands of soldiers drafted in to help.

And as communities continue to suffer from the devastating floods and mourn their losses, more rain is forecast for large parts of Spain.

And it is noted that there was anger at the reflexes shown by the authorities, with citizens calling for Pedro Sanchez’s resignation and a group launching a vicious mud attack on Felipe and Letitia in the town of Paiporta.

By the time authorities sent cellphone alerts, many were already on the street or in places like underground garages, which became death traps.
