Barcelona: February return to Camp Nou with limited capacity

The Blaugrana prepare to move back to their renovated home after playing at Montjuïc Stadium since summer 2023

Newsroom November 19 06:20

The countdown for FC Barcelona’s return to Camp Nou has begun. The club has set February as the target date, a timeline confirmed by the Municipality of Barcelona. This means fans will spend at most three more months at the Olympic Stadium of Montjuïc, where the team has been playing since the renovations at Camp Nou began in the summer of 2023.

“The date announced by Vice President Elena Fort during the last Assembly, which is February, remains unchanged,” said David Escudé, Barcelona’s Deputy Mayor for Sports, in an interview with RAC1. However, he noted that the club is also preparing for later dates in case of unforeseen issues, though February remains the primary goal.

Meeting with Local Residents

On Monday, a meeting took place between the club, the Municipality, and residents of the Les Corts neighborhood to address concerns about the disruptions caused by the renovations. “It was an opportunity to improve accessibility and mobility around Camp Nou,” Escudé stated.

Atalanta Might Be the Last Opponent at Montjuïc

All indications point to the return being imminent. Barcelona has already released tickets for their Champions League match against Atalanta on January 29 at Montjuïc Stadium, likely the last game of the group stage under the new tournament format. The next question is whether the game against Alavés in February will mark the “premiere” of the Spotify Camp Nou.

Return with Limited Capacity

The return to the Catalan stadium will not see full seating capacity initially. Current projections estimate that about 62,000 fans will be accommodated, as the renovations are not expected to be fully completed until 2026.
