Zaharova: It would be insane for the West to give nuclear weapons to Ukraine

Zakharova stated that if the U.S. deploys missiles in Japan, it would pose a threat to Russia, prompting Moscow to retaliate

Newsroom November 27 05:30

The Russian Foreign Ministry has condemned as “paranoid” the idea circulating in some circles that the West should supply nuclear weapons to Ukraine. According to the ministry, preventing such a scenario was one of the reasons behind Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, emphasized that it is in the interest of responsible governments to ensure that what she described as a “suicidal” scenario does not materialize.

She warned that the “irresponsible actions” of Ukraine and its Western backers could bring the world “to the brink of catastrophe.”

Zakharova also highlighted that the potential deployment of U.S. missiles in Japan would be perceived as a direct threat to Russia, compelling Moscow to take retaliatory measures.

She criticized the U.S. for escalating tensions in the Taiwan Strait, undermining regional stability.

Additionally, she noted that the U.S. has stationed medium-range missiles in the Philippines, a move she claimed would trigger an arms race and heighten strategic risks.
