Irini Mourtzoukou: I lied about my stepfather, as my mother hurt me, so I hurt her

"With an apology not everything is solved, he ruined my life" replies the stepfather of the 24-year-old - The new testimonies for Panagiotakis - What Mourtzoukou claimed for the fictitious marriage and the civil partnership he had concluded

Newsroom November 28 08:04

There is no end to the revelations surrounding the case of the dead infants in Amaliada. Just before 24-year-old Irini Mourtzoukou took the stand, she recanted her allegations and admitted she lied about her stepfather being the father of her children.

The reason, she claimed to MEGA, was to get back at her mother.

“As my mother hurt me, so I hurt her. A lot has happened behind, at least I came out to ask him for an apology,” Irini Mourtzoukou claimed.

“They have taken out so much that has hurt me. My mother came out and accused me without me having done anything to her. She has done so much and I haven’t blamed her, she came out to blame me?” she added.

“One apology doesn’t solve everything,” was the response from the 24-year-old’s stepfather.

“This whole thing has done a lot of damage to me. I go to jobs and they kick me out. Psychologically I’m a mess. My child doesn’t go to school because of this… Irene has ruined my life.”

He said he does not yet know whether or not he will withdraw the lawsuit he has filed against Irini Mourtzoukou.

On the day Panagiotakis passed away

Irini Mourtzoukou described frame by frame the day Panagiotakis died.

The 24-year-old denied claims that on the day the 15-month-old infant died, she fought with his mother, Poppy.

“Poppy and I argued many days before. The girl went out for not even half an hour the night before and as soon as she came back she went to get Babylino for Panagiotis. She walked him around to calm him down afterward because he wasn’t feeling well. The next day we got up fine, had coffee and Poppy said ‘Aren’t we doing any work? Panagiotis was playing with her, nothing happened concerning what was said.”

“We thought Panagiotakis had his tooth. Poppy was giving him Depon, trying to calm him down. She walked him around, put him to sleep, and specifically put him in his crib. Then he popped out again, we put a teddy bear with a t-shirt on him and he slept through the night. He didn’t show us any discomfort again while I was home that night cleaning up. She said the other girl said that Panagiotis was vomiting. I didn’t see it, but I won’t deny that he was vomiting,” she claimed.

“We could tell by the pulse in his hand”

As for the time of little Panagiotis’ death, Irini Mourtzoukou claimed:

“I did not see the time of death. I remembered after the girl told me that the time was 1. That is 1 we went to the hospital. We went to the hospital on the basis that the child was alive. We could understand a pulse in his arm.”

He then added that little Panagiotis was sideways when he vomited.

“Panagiotis had only drunk milk. I don’t remember him eating anything that day.”

Testimonies and Descriptions of Panagiotakis

An hour before Panagiotakis was taken dead to the hospital, Poppy was chatting on the phone with her cousin.

What everyone seems to agree on is that the unfortunate infant had woken up without a problem and seemed to be in a good mood.

The 15-month-old infant, on what turned out to be the last night of his life, had been put to sleep by Irene.

Panagiotakis’ mother insists in her testimony that the time she fed her child was at 10:30, and as she said, at about 12:05 she went to the bathroom to talk on the phone with a person about an argument she had with Irini.

Then Poppy comes out of the bathroom and sees that Irene has taken the baby out of the crib and put him in the stroller.

According to a reported report, necrosis appears to have been detected in part of the child’s intestine.

For her part, Irene Mourtzoukou claimed: “At the time of death I did not see her. I remembered after the girl told me that the time was 1. That is 1. We went to the hospital.”

About Katerina’s baby

Irini Mourtzoukou also referred to the photos she had taken with Katerina’s stillborn baby, who died in 2021.

As she said, she had taken the photos and sent them to her mother because she wanted to see if the child was better.

“I was moving the child’s arms and legs, it was like he was sleeping. It didn’t occur to me that the child was dead,” the 24-year-old claimed.

“I put my hands on his face to give him air, so I was told by the ambulance. I might have made marks on his face the way I was trying, but I didn’t see that mark. I don’t remember, I remember doing whatever the ambulance told me while I was waiting for it to arrive,” he added.

“I said I wouldn’t go out again”

“I said I wouldn’t get out again, but with what I’m hearing… One calls me a dealer, the other calls me a murderer. So I don’t know either. I laugh at all the things they put out, because even they don’t know what I am,” Irini Mourtzoukou claimed.

About the civil partnership agreement

Referring to the sham marriage and the civil partnership agreement she had entered into, Irini Mourtzoukou revealed that she received 700 euros and did so because she was facing financial problems as she was approaching her child’s memorial service.

As for the scams she is involved in, she said:

“I found out about this recently, I was not aware of it. I knew my mother had done something and was being hunted. My sister didn’t know anything about any of this. My mother had given my mother her cards, the girl is shown in the account because she was getting money for her health problem that she has. She got a call and she said ‘since I don’t have a card’. My mum said the bill had Gogo on it.”
