Warning for "potentially dangerous phenomena" at the weekend

The weather will change scenery from tomorrow (29/11), as the weather is expected to worsen, with rain, snow and a drop in temperature.

In fact, as the director of the National Meteorological Service (EMF), Thodoris Kolydas, said in a post, from Friday (29/11) phenomena start to appear in the west and north and the weather in the country begins to gradually change over the weekend. On Saturday and Sunday we will have rain and thunderstorms in most of the country, which will be locally strong.

According to him, the feasibility of issuing an emergency weather bulletin will be considered today.

Arnaoutoglu warns of “potentially dangerous weather” over weekend

“In the next 24 hours a change in weather is expected that appears to be severe. A lot of water will fall for hours in many areas of the country. In some of them the phenomena cannot be ruled out to be potentially dangerous,” Sakis Arnaoutoglou said in a post.

The weather will start to show its “teeth” from Friday evening. “On Saturday, we will be visited by a low barometric pressure that will give us a lot of water and in some places a lot of water,” the meteorologist says.

Northern Greece will see a lot of water and the rains will be long lasting. At the same time in Florina, Kastoria and maybe even Kozani, it will snow.

Tsatrafyllias: Organized and significant bad weather

For his part, the meteorologist, George Tsatrafyllias, spoke of organized and significant bad weather, while he shared the areas where it will “hit”:

Thessaly
Central Macedonia
Ionian Sea
Evia
Sporades
Eastern Aegean

As he said in his post: “The latest news on the weekend’s bad weather is that it is organizing and getting stronger. In the first line, the areas that will receive strong storms are Thessaly, central Macedonia, Ionian, Euboea, Sporades, eastern Aegean and there is a good chance that Attica will also receive strong storms. I will inform about any change”.

The temperature dropped to -5 °C on Wednesday morning, 27/11/2024

Frost occurred in the morning hours of Wednesday 27/11 in the northern and central continental parts, with the lowest minimum temperature recorded for another day in Fort Nefrokopi where the mercury dropped to -5.2 °C. According to the network of automatic weather stations of the National Observatory of Athens / meteo.gr, the eight lowest minimum temperatures in the morning hours of Wednesday 27/11 are presented in the table below.

The weather today

Scattered clouds are expected, becoming occasionally thicker in the west and north. During the night and early morning visibility will be limited in many areas and fog will form in places.

The temperature will range in Western Macedonia from -2 to 13 degrees Celsius, in the rest of northern Greece from -5 to 14 degrees Celsius, in Thessaly from 1 to 17 degrees Celsius, in Epirus from 2 to 18 degrees Celsius, in the rest of the mainland from 2 to 18-20 degrees Celsius, in the Ionian Islands from 6 to 17-18 degrees Celsius, in the islands of the North and Northeastern Aegean from 3 to 16 degrees Celsius and in the rest of the Aegean islands and in Crete from 6 to 17-19 degrees Celsius.

In the North Aegean, winds will blow from the east with intensities of 2-4 Beaufort and in the rest of the Aegean winds from the north with the same intensities. In the Ionian Sea and on the mainland, light winds will prevail.

FRIDAY 29-11-2024

In the west, increasing clouds with local rain and occasional thunderstorms.
In the rest of the country a few clouds that will gradually increase and from the afternoon hours showers and isolated thunderstorms will occur in the north and the eastern Aegean, while from the evening local showers will occur in the rest of the country and mainly in the Cyclades and Crete.
In the morning and evening hours visibility will be locally limited.
Winds will blow from southerly directions 3 to 5 Beaufort and from the evening hours in the north north north-northeasterly 4 to 6 Beaufort.
The temperature will not show any significant change. It will reach 16 degrees Celsius in the northern mainland and 17 to 20 degrees Celsius in the rest of the country.

Snow will fall in the central and northern mountains.
Visibility will be locally limited during the phenomena.
Winds will blow in the west and north east northeast at 4 to 6 Beaufort and in the north at 8 to 9 Beaufort. In the remaining areas the wind will blow from the south at 5 to 7 Beaufort with a tendency to weaken from the afternoon hours.
The temperature will drop in almost the whole country.

MONDAY 02-12-2024

Unsettled weather with showers and occasional thunderstorms, mainly in the eastern mainland and the Aegean Sea. Gradually the phenomena will gradually subside in the west. Snow will fall in the mountains, mainly in the central and northern parts of the country.
Visibility will be locally limited during the phenomena.
Winds will blow in the west and north, east northeast 4 to 6 and locally in the northern Aegean Sea 7 Beaufort. In the remaining areas the wind will blow from southern directions 4 to 5 Beaufort.
The temperature will drop slightly further.
