Pierrakakis: 10,700 school suspensions for mobile phone use – Law to be enforced on long-term university students by the end of the year

We are waiting for 50 top foreign universities for joint postgraduate degrees with Greek universities, said the Minister of Education

Newsroom November 29 11:09

Accusing that the law on perennial students will be implemented at the end of this academic year, Education Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis, added that 10,700 suspensions of students for using cell phones in schools have been made so far.

“Of course, the law on perpetual students will be implemented,” the Education Minister told OREN, who also referred to the plan for non-state universities in Greece, saying that “the KYAs for licensing have been signed, applications will start in January.”

At the same time, he noted that “I and my colleagues expect 50 top universities to partner with Greek AEI for joint postgraduate degrees.”

As he explained, “a 62 million call has been set up by the Recovery Fund and we already know of top universities from the US and Europe that have expressed interest. I expect the list will be impressive.”

In this context, he noted that “only among private institutions, Greece is 8th on the list with the most students doing studies abroad. Greece must become a regional center of education.”

Returning to the issue of perpetual students, he said that “the relevant article that has been passed since 2002 is complete, it will be implemented at the end of the academic year, and it has exceptions.”
