Emergency weather bulletin – Thunderstorm currently in Attica – How the weather will unfold

The severe weather will last until the early hours of Tuesday — Which areas will be affected

The severe weather system “Bora,” affecting the eastern and southern parts of the country, is gradually subsiding. However, the Emergency Bulletin of Hazardous Weather Phenomena issued on 29/11/2024 at 12:00 remains in effect, as rainfall and thunderstorms, some of which will be locally intense, are expected to continue until the early hours of Tuesday (3-12-24).

It is currently raining in Attica.

According to Meteo, areas such as Maroussi, Agia Paraskevi, Patissia, Rafina, and Peristeri are experiencing rainfall.

Where Intense Rainfall and Thunderstorms Are Expected

a. In the islands of the northern and eastern Aegean (areas including Lemnos, Lesvos, Chios), temporarily during midday, and in the southern parts (Samos, Ikaria) until Monday afternoon (2-12-24).

b. In coastal areas of eastern and southern Peloponnese, temporarily until Monday evening (2-12-24).

c. In Thessaly (especially in the prefectures of Larissa and Magnesia) until early Tuesday morning (3-12-24).

d. In the Sporades, northern Evia, the Cyclades, and the Dodecanese at intervals until Tuesday morning (3-12-24).

New data on the progression of the Bora weather system until Tuesday noon were provided this morning by the director of the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS), Theodoros Kolydas.

In a post on “X,” Kolydas noted, “Rain and thunderstorms, occasionally intense, will continue in Thessaly, Sporades, western and southern Peloponnese, the islands of the northern and eastern Aegean, Cyclades, and Dodecanese.” He highlighted that significant storms are expected in much of the Eastern Aegean.

Kolydas accompanied his post with maps showing localized heavy rainfall zones in Thessaly’s coastal areas and a 24-hour rainfall forecast from Monday noon to Tuesday noon.

EMERGENCYALERT (METEOALARM) WARNINGS

Orange warnings are issued for Central Macedonia and the Dodecanese, while yellow warnings apply to eastern Peloponnese, Central Greece, Boeotia, and the eastern/northeastern Aegean islands.

Orange means “expect some impact; take precautions based on recent weather updates,” while yellow suggests “possible minor outdoor disruptions.”

Severe Weather Bulletin for Bora

The Bora system will continue to bring heavy rain and thunderstorms to many areas until Tuesday morning (3-12-24).

Difficult Night in Halkidiki

Severe weather hit southern Sithonia, affecting Toroni and Porto Koufo. Roads turned into rivers; homes and shops flooded with mud and debris. The provincial road network became impassable in several locations due to landslides and fallen trees.

Residents received a 112 alert just after midnight, banning movement between Porto Koufo and Neos Marmaras due to dangerous weather and road damage.
