Frenchman confessed to killing a woman with his car in Crete – A week ago, a psychiatrist deemed he did not require hospitalization

The perpetrator is in a state of delirium and keeps changing his account of the motives for his act

Newsroom December 18 05:10

A 33-year-old Frenchman, who killed a 36-year-old woman by hitting her with his car on the road to Anopoli, Heraklion, is reportedly in a state of delirium.

The man confessed to deliberately hitting the woman, but in his confused state, he has so far provided at least two different versions of his motives: In the first version, he allegedly claimed that he thought the victim was someone else—a man who had sexually harassed him in the past. In his next “explanation,” he claimed that the victim had sexually harassed his partner.

The Frenchman’s partner, a young woman from Bulgaria, had reportedly noticed that he was suffering from severe psychological issues and had requested and obtained a prosecutor’s order for him to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. This was because he had caused various incidents and had drawn the attention of authorities, including for domestic violence. Indeed, on December 12, six days prior to the incident, following the prosecutor’s order, he was taken from the Rethymno Police Department for a psychiatric examination at the psychiatric clinic of Rethymno General Hospital, where it was determined that the criteria for his hospitalization were not met.

Six days later, he left Rethymno and set up a deadly ambush on the road to Anopoli, Heraklion.
