Major problems at German airports due to a failure in a police control system

Delays involving non-Schengen passengers because checks are carried out manually

Newsroom January 3 05:52

Severe problems and delays caused disruptions to the police electronic checkpoint system at several airports in Germany on Friday.

According to Bild, it was not possible to check travelers from non-Schengen zone countries. Checks carried out electronically are done manually, requiring much more time.

The Federal Police spokesman in charge of Frankfurt airport told Bild: “Our colleagues have to do manually a lot of things that the system has done so far. At the moment we are still doing it.”

At the same time, public broadcaster WDR reported long queues in the security zone at Düsseldorf airport, where many passengers waited for more than two hours. It is currently not possible to enter Germany outside the Schengen zone, the network reported, citing information from the airport.
