Mitsotakis announces the name of the President of the Republic at 11 a.m., all signs point to Konstantinos Tasoulas

The scheduled meeting at 11:30 a.m. with Katerina Sakellaropoulou has been postponed to the coming days

Newsroom January 15 10:45

At 11 a.m., Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will address the citizens to announce his nominee for President of the Republic, as announced by the Prime Minister’s press office.

As a result, the scheduled meeting at 11:30 a.m. with Katerina Sakellaropoulou will not take place.

Regarding the person who will succeed Mrs. Sakellaropoulou, all information points to the scenario of the President of the Hellenic Parliament, Konstantinos Tasoulas.

The Prime Minister holds the erudite politician from Epirus in high regard, who is currently serving his second term in the presidential chair of the Parliament. Phlegmatic and with a sarcastic sense of humor, Konstantinos Tasoulas has been mentioned for months as a possible candidate for President of the Republic, as a choice coming from the “heart” of New Democracy (ND), even though he was elected in the summer of 2023 with 249 votes to the presidency of the Parliament. He is a seasoned parliamentarian, knows the balance of power and key figures, and it is considered that he will be easily voted for by ND MPs, likely including former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras. After all, the two are well-acquainted from the days they were close to Evangelos Averoff, of whom Mr. Tasoulas was a trusted aide.

According to information, the postponement of today’s meeting at the Presidential Palace is fully coordinated with Mrs. Sakellaropoulou.

As noted in the announcement, Mitsotakis’ meeting has been rescheduled for the coming days.
