Novak Djokovic: New victory at the Australian Open and a new record with 430 Grand Slam matches – Video

The Serbian tennis star added another record to his long list of achievements by surpassing Roger Federer for the most Grand Slam appearances in tennis history, reaching a total of 430 matches

This new milestone was achieved on Wednesday during the Australian Open in a more challenging second-round match than initially expected.

Djokovic improved his record in Grand Slam tournaments to 379 wins and 51 losses, with an impressive success rate of 88.1%, defeating 21-year-old Portuguese qualifier Jaime Faria 6-1, 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-2. The match was temporarily halted due to rain before the retractable roof of Rod Laver Arena was closed.

“Grand Slams are the foundation of our sport. They are the most important tournaments,” said Djokovic. “I’m blessed to break yet another record today.”

Records Keep Coming
Djokovic, who already holds the record for the most Grand Slam titles (24), leads ahead of Rafael Nadal (22) and Roger Federer (20). Additionally, he has spent the most weeks as world No. 1, competed in 37 Grand Slam finals—six more than Federer—and continues to pursue new heights.

What’s Next for Djokovic
If he wins this year’s Australian Open, Djokovic will secure his 25th Grand Slam title, a feat no man or woman has ever achieved. He would also become the oldest player in the Open Era to win a Grand Slam (at 38 years old), tying Margaret Court with 11 Australian Open titles.

Challenges and Pressures
This week, Djokovic has faced young debutants at Grand Slam events and has had to play four sets in two consecutive matches. In the first round, he faced 19-year-old American Nishesh Basavareddy, while in the second round, he encountered 21-year-old Jaime Faria, who gave him a tough fight, especially in the second set.
