New CEO of ERT: Konstantinos Papavasileiou

For the first time, a senior executive is selected for the management of the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation through the process outlined in Law 5062/2023 for the new public sector administration selection system

Newsroom January 17 12:12

Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis announced the appointment of Konstantinos Papavasileiou as the new CEO of the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT).

According to Mr. Marinakis, this is the first time a senior executive has been selected for ERT’s leadership through the process defined by Law 5062/2023, which establishes a new system for appointing public sector administration.

Konstantinos Papavasileiou has been working at ERT since 1997, with more than a decade in leadership roles. Since 2020, he has served as the General Director of Programming and has previously held positions as Financial Director and Television Director at ERT.

Marinakis’ Statement on Konstantinos Papavasileiou

After completing the process stipulated in Law 5062/2023 for selecting public sector administration and finalizing the list of top candidates by ASEP (Supreme Council for Civil Personnel Selection), Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister and Government Spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis will recommend Konstantinos Papavasileiou as CEO of ERT to the company’s General Assembly.

Following the upcoming General Assembly, the decision will be submitted to the relevant committee under Article 49A of the Hellenic Parliament’s Regulations for review. This marks the first time an ERT executive has been selected through this new administration selection process. The choice of Mr. Papavasileiou, the current General Director of Programming, reflects the need to appoint someone from within ERT, as he has worked there for 27 years since 1997. As General Director of Programming since 2020, he has played a pivotal role in improving the quality of public television programming in recent years.

The Deputy Minister also thanked outgoing CEO Katerina Kaskanioti for her exemplary service and significant contributions to the company’s operations, expressing confidence in her continued success in future endeavors.

The mission of both outgoing and incoming leadership remains steadfast: to continue serving ERT’s purpose with dedication, providing high-quality services and content while respecting the contributions of Greek taxpayers.

Konstantinos Papavasileiou: A Longstanding Presence in Public Television

Konstantinos Papavasileiou has extensive and longstanding experience in public broadcasting. He began working at ERT in 1997 at the age of 18, contributing to various areas within the organization and spending more than a decade in leadership roles.
