Obama couple: Rumors of crisis in their marriage – Why they “charge” Barack with an affair with Jennifer Aniston

How the Greek-American actress has responded to the rumours - Michelle Obama has not accompanied her husband of 30 years in official appearances lately - She did not interrupt her vacation in Hawaii to be with him at Jimmy Carter's funeral

Newsroom January 17 01:44

Speculation is growing in the U.S. about potential strains in the relationship between former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama. At the same time, tabloid media have been quick to sensationalize, linking Barack Obama to actress Jennifer Aniston—a claim the Greek-American actress reportedly denies.

These rumors have been fueled by Michelle Obama’s recent behavior, statements, and absence from events where she might have been expected to accompany her husband of 30 years.

Michelle’s “aversion” to Trump – Skipping his inauguration

Michelle Obama notably chose not to attend Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration on January 20, raising eyebrows since Barack Obama attended the Capitol ceremony. Michelle has publicly criticized Trump, especially for allegations of sexual misconduct against him and his attacks on the Obama family, including the unfounded “birther” conspiracy about Barack’s birthplace. She has previously admitted that watching Trump’s first inauguration in 2017 was difficult and brought her to tears.

Michelle also did not attend former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral, leaving Barack Obama to converse casually with Donald Trump, seated next to Melania Trump. While Obama’s team cited “prior commitments” as the reason for Michelle’s absence, they admitted these commitments were not pressing, as she remained in Hawaii for an extended vacation.

Her spokesperson issued a statement saying, “Mrs. Obama sends her thoughts and prayers to the Carter family and all who loved and learned from the esteemed former president.”

Tradition and protocol set aside

While Donald Trump himself broke tradition by skipping Joe Biden’s inauguration, sources close to Michelle Obama claim she has little regard for protocol when it comes to Trump. A source told People magazine, “Her feelings about Trump are not exaggerated. She won’t put on a happy face or pretend for protocol’s sake. Michelle doesn’t do things simply because they are expected or traditional.”

A similar message was conveyed to the New York Post, with a source saying, “She’s always been very deliberate about where and how she appears. She reluctantly participated in the election campaigns for unity but feels no obligation to unify around Trump. Her absence speaks volumes.”

A lavish lifestyle

The Obamas, with an estimated net worth of $70 million, are completing the construction of a luxurious estate in Oahu, Hawaii. The property includes two swimming pools, adding to their portfolio of homes in Washington, D.C., Chicago, and Martha’s Vineyard.

Michelle Obama’s controversial remarks about Barack spark speculation

Michelle Obama’s recent comments about her husband, Barack Obama, have further fueled speculation about the state of their marriage. These remarks, combined with her notable absences at key events, have given rise to rumors and debates.

On January 17, her 61st birthday, Michelle appeared on the chat show hosted by her friend, actress and singer Jennifer Hudson. When asked about Barack Obama, her response was notably brief:
“He’s doing well, he’s doing well. Yes, yes. He’s still working very hard, you know. But I think that’s something he’ll always do.”

Apart from mentioning his focus on his latest project, the Obama Presidential Center—a museum and library in Chicago—Michelle had little else to say about her husband of over 30 years. She added that buying Christmas gifts for him was challenging but refrained from elaborating further.

These comments have been interpreted by some as unusually detached, further stoking curiosity about the dynamics of the couple’s long-standing relationship.

Michelle Obama recently opened up about their holiday plans in Hawaii, sharing a lighthearted remark about her husband, Barack Obama: “We’re heading to the island for some sun and relaxation. That’s why you need to choose your spouse wisely. He became much more… charming when I learned he was from Hawaii.”

Her humor, however, contrasts with past candid admissions about the challenges in their marriage. In 2022, Michelle revealed that there was a decade during their early years as parents when she “couldn’t stand” her husband.

“People think I’m being harsh when I say it, but there was a decade when I couldn’t tolerate him,” she confessed.

Barack, for his part, has acknowledged these difficulties. In a 2023 interview with CBS, when asked about Michelle’s remarks, he reflected: “Leaving the White House has definitely helped. We have more time together now, which makes a big difference.”

Michelle has also touched on how their differing temperaments can lead to tension. “Barack wants to argue with logic, and I’m like, ‘Logic? I’m angry! Don’t come to me with logic when I’m upset!’”

These honest reflections highlight the complexity and resilience of their 30+ years of marriage, marked by moments of struggle but also deep mutual respect and humor.

Rumors linking Barack Obama to Jennifer Aniston and their impact

Speculation about marital issues between Barack and Michelle Obama intensified when tabloid reports linked the former U.S. President to actress Jennifer Aniston.

In October, Aniston publicly dismissed claims from an American gossip magazine alleging a relationship between her and Barack. The magazine suggested Michelle felt “betrayed” by this supposed connection. Addressing the rumors, Aniston said: “I’ve only met him once. I know Michelle better than I know him.”

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Aniston humorously shared a magazine cover titled “The Truth About Jen and Barack”, which claimed Michelle felt “betrayed” and that Aniston and Barack were “obsessed with each other.” Laughing at the absurdity, Aniston remarked: “From all the calls you get from your publicist, where you’re like, ‘Oh no, what’s it now?’… and then you see this. I wasn’t even mad at this one.”

She reiterated that the rumors were “completely false” and joked with Kimmel, who teased:
“Is there something about you and Michelle we should know?” Smiling, Aniston replied: “That’s not true either.”

Past allegations resurface

The rumors follow previous controversies surrounding Barack’s relationships. A 2017 biography by Pulitzer Prize-winning author David Garrow revealed that Barack maintained contact with an ex-girlfriend, Sheila Miyoshi Jager, during the early years of his relationship with Michelle.

In 2013, the National Enquirer alleged marital discord after Michelle supposedly discovered Secret Service agents covering up Barack’s infidelity. The claims coincided with a viral moment when Barack took a selfie with Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt during Nelson Mandela’s memorial service, sparking visible displeasure from Michelle, as captured in widely circulated photos.

Despite persistent rumors, Barack and Michelle have maintained a public facade of unity. However, Michelle’s recent absences from significant events, such as Jimmy Carter’s funeral, have raised questions about the true state of their relationship. While no concrete evidence supports the gossip, the ongoing speculation highlights the intense scrutiny on their private lives.
