Michalis Hatzigiannis on Zeta Makrypoulia: “love is not easy after a breakup”

Michalis Hatzigiannis recently opened up about his music career, his past relationship with Zeta Makrypoulia, and the public attention surrounding his personal life

Newsroom January 26 10:30

The renowned singer gave an interview on Saturday, January 25, to “Smile Again”, where he shared reflections on love, breakups, and the challenges of maintaining humanity and grace during emotional transitions.

When asked about the end of his relationship with Makrypoulia, Hatzigiannis emphasized the importance of handling such moments with respect and civility:
“When a chapter closes, but it ends gracefully and humanely, each person taking their own path, there is deep pain. Maintaining love and respect even after a breakup is not easy. Being civilized doesn’t mean you’re happy or at your best; life simply has its own plans.”

Hatzigiannis acknowledged that his past relationship with the actress and TV host remains a topic of public curiosity. However, he expressed no frustration about it:
“It doesn’t bother me; it doesn’t affect me. It’s something that happened, it’s a fact, not just a rumor.”

Despite their split, the former couple remains on good terms, a testament to their mutual respect.

On Public Attention and Music

Hatzigiannis reflected on the public’s fascination with the personal lives of artists:
“When you’re a public figure, people want to know more about you. I find it human and natural under the circumstances. But in an ideal world, it would be wonderful if people only asked us about our music and art.”

Despite this, he stays focused on his craft and supporting younger talents. At his current appearances, he is joined by the artist ZAF, highlighting his commitment to mentoring others:
“Those of us who have experienced some success have a moral obligation to help those who deserve it, just as older generations helped us when we were starting out.”

Career Beginnings and Collaborations

Recalling his early days in music, Hatzigiannis spoke fondly of his collaborations with legends like Giorgos Hatzinasios, whom he considers a spiritual father:
“Coming from Cyprus after completing my military service, I had the great fortune to work with Giorgos Hatzinasios. He embraced me and made me part of his family, giving me two beautiful songs: ‘Touch of Soul’ and ‘Body You Seek’. He is my spiritual father. I grew up with artists like Haroula Alexiou, Alkistis Protopsalti, Giorgos Dalaras, Dimitra Galani, and Dimitris Mitropanos. What’s extraordinary is that I got to work with them right after I arrived.”

Finally, Hatzigiannis noted how flattered he feels when hearing songs inspired by his style:
“I hear many songs that resemble my own work. It’s not just me; this happens to many artists.”
