Brussels Airport announced on platform X that, due to a “technical problem in air traffic control,” aircraft were currently unable to fly over Belgium. “We have no idea yet how long this will last,” the statement added.

A Skeyes spokesperson told local TV station VRT that around 3 PM, it was discovered that the air traffic control system “was not functioning properly.” All aircraft that were in the airspace controlled by Skeyes at the time, at altitudes of up to 7,500 meters, were redirected to neighboring countries.

Belgium’s main airports are those of Brussels (Zaventem) and Charleroi. Smaller airports are also located in Antwerp, Liège, and Ostend.
