They issued another permit in Sarakiniko of Milos for villas with pools next to the monstrosity of a hotel

The building permit, which was issued last Sunday (!), concerns the construction of residences with pools on a plot adjacent to the controversial hotel that began construction in the area, prompting government intervention

Newsroom February 7 09:07

Before the dust even settled from protothema.gr‘s revelation about the five-star hotel being built in Sarakiniko, Milos, another building permit has come to light for yet another building complex set to rise in this uniquely beautiful and significant landmark—right next to it.

The building permit, which was issued last Sunday (!), concerns the construction of residences with pools on a plot adjacent to the hotel—widely condemned as an architectural monstrosity—that had begun construction in the area and led to government intervention, which “froze” all work on the project.

“Three residences with swimming pools,” states the building permit issued on February 2—a Sunday. The permit specifies that the three buildings will have a total above-ground volume of 909.85 square meters, a building footprint of 207.9 square meters, and a total built-up area of 195.09 square meters, along with nine parking spaces, on a 5,320.24-square-meter plot.

As seen in protothema.gr‘s video and aerial photos, the residences will be built right next to the hotel that the company Unique Development had started constructing before the Ministry of Environment halted the project following the public outcry sparked by protothema.gr‘s report.

The project received pre-approval for a building permit back in August 2024, and the final permit was issued last Sunday. How did this happen on a public holiday? The same way the permit for the adjacent hotel was issued—through an electronic fast-track process, which, under current legislation, can be completed by the project’s engineer.

However, in this particular case, construction has not yet begun. Meanwhile, right next door, excavation machinery has already prepared the ground for foundation work…
