Weather: Cold, rain and snow in the mountains today – New deterioration from tomorrow

New deterioration is expected in weather and even snowfall is not ruled out in some continental areas, according to meteorologists.

Although, as EMF director Thodoris Kolydas says, “nothing particularly dangerous is predicted in terms of weather in the coming days. From Wednesday afternoon, somewhat more rain starts in the west, which on Thursday will affect almost all continents except NE Greece. Sporadic thunderstorms on Thursday in the Ionian Sea, West Central Greece and West Pelopsos. Towards the end of the week although far away affecting almost all of the east. Winds weaken in the next few days and by Thursday temperatures return to normal levels.”

For his part, Klearchos Marousakis said in a post that heavy snowfall is expected on the mainland even at very low altitudes. From the afternoon hours of Wednesday onwards, snowfall altitudes will gradually begin to rise, leading to a temporary normalization of the situation.

It also predicts a new strong cold wave near February 20.

Down to -11°C yesterday morning

Very low minimum temperatures were recorded in the morning hours of Monday 10/02 in several continental areas, with the lowest minimum temperature recorded in Fort Nefrokopi at -11.2°C.

Today’s weather

Increased clouds with local rain are forecast, which will gradually intensify in the Ionian Sea, Epirus, Western Thessaly, Western and Central Sterea. A little snow will occur in the mountains of the mainland, Evia and Crete. Visibility will be limited in the central and northern mainland, while frost will occur in the night and early morning in the mainland.

The temperature will range in Northern Greece from -8 to 8 degrees, in Epirus from -5 to 13 degrees, in Thessaly from -2 to 9 degrees, in the Peloponnese from -3 to 12 degrees and in Sterea from -3 to 11 degrees, in the North Aegean islands from 2 to 10 degrees, in the Central and South Aegean from 6 to 12-13 degrees, in the Ionian Sea from 5 to 14 degrees and in Crete from 5 to 13 degrees.

Winds will blow in the West from various directions from 2 to 4 Beaufort, in the East from the north northeast from 3 to 5 Beaufort and in the Southeastern Aegean up to 6 Beaufort.

The weather on Wednesday (12.02.2025)

In eastern Macedonia, Thrace, the East Aegean islands and the Dodecanese a few clouds. In the rest of the country, clouds, partly cloudy with local rainfall that will intensify from the afternoon, mainly in the Ionian Sea, with possible isolated thunderstorms. Snowfall will occur in the continental mountains and in the mountains of Evia and Crete.

Winds will blow in the west east southeast 4 to 6 and from the afternoon in the Ionian Sea locally 7 Beaufort. In the east the winds will blow north northeast 4 to 6 Beaufort and in the southeastern Aegean Sea locally 7 Beaufort with gradual weakening from the afternoon.

The temperature will not change significantly and will remain lower than normal for the season mainly in the eastern and northern part of the country. In the Ionian Islands, the west, Crete, Dodecanese and Cyclades it will reach 12 to 13 degrees Celsius, while in the rest of the country it will not exceed 08 to 11 degrees Celsius. Frost will occur in places on the mainland in the morning and evening hours.

The weather on Thursday 13-02-2025

Cloudy with local rain in the Ionian Sea, the mainland and from midday in Evia and the Sporades. Sporadic thunderstorms will mainly occur on the Ionian Islands, western Sterea and western Peloponnese. Snowfall will occur in the mainland mountains and in the mountains of Evia.

Winds will blow in the west southeast 4 to 6 and in the Ionian Sea locally 7 Beaufort. In the east the winds will blow from the north 3 to 5 Beaufort, but from the afternoon they will shift to south southeast winds up to 4 Beaufort.

The temperature will rise slightly in the west and south. In the Ionian Islands, the western and southern mainland, Crete, the Dodecanese and the Cyclades it will reach 13 to 15 degrees Celsius, while in the rest of the country it will not exceed 08 to 11 degrees Celsius. Frost will occur in places in the central and northern continental areas in the morning and evening hours.

The weather on Friday 14-02-2025

Increased clouds with local rain mainly in the Ionian Sea, the western and southern mainland, the Cyclades and the islands of the eastern Aegean. Sporadic thunderstorms will occur in the Ionian Sea, the western mainland and probably from noon onwards in some places in the Cyclades and the eastern Aegean. Light snowfall will occur in places in the continental highlands. Visibility in the morning hours will be locally limited.

Winds will blow from southern directions 3 to 5 and locally in the sea 6 Beaufort.

The temperature will rise and return to normal for the season.

Across the country, cloudy skies are forecast, with localized showers. Sporadic thunderstorms will occur mainly in the Ionian Sea and on the islands of the eastern Aegean. Snowfall will occur in places mainly in the central and northern continental mountains.

Winds will blow from southerly directions 3 to 5 and locally in the sea 6 Beaufort, but from the afternoon in the north – northeast will shift to northerly directions and will increase to 6 to 7 and locally at night in the northeastern Aegean 8 Beaufort.

The temperature will not change significantly. Frost will occur locally in the northern mainland in the morning and mainly in the evening hours.
