Middle East: Beijing opposes Trump’s plan for ‘forced displacement’ of Gaza population

The Arab League also stated today that it is ‘unacceptable’ for Palestinians to be displaced from their land

Newsroom February 12 11:32

China stated today that it opposes the “forced displacement” of Gaza’s population, responding to a question regarding the controversial plan of U.S. President Donald Trump to clear the area of its inhabitants.

“Gaza belongs to the Palestinians and is an integral part of Palestinian territory,” a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said during a regular press briefing. “We oppose the forced displacement of Gaza’s residents,” they emphasized.

Meanwhile, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, declared today that it is “unacceptable for the Arab world” to see Palestinians displaced from their land.

“We Arabs have fought against this idea for a hundred years, and we are not ready to surrender now,” Aboul Gheit stated at the World Government Summit in Dubai when asked about Trump’s plan to empty Gaza of its inhabitants.

“Today, attention is focused on the Gaza Strip, and tomorrow it will shift to the West Bank, aiming to clear historical Palestine of its original inhabitants,” Aboul Gheit said. “This is unacceptable for the Arab world,” he added.

Aboul Gheit also confirmed that an emergency summit on the Palestinian issue will be held in Egypt on February 27, adding that Arab nations have two weeks to formulate a unified stance on the matter.

He further stated that the concept of the Arab Peace Initiative—first introduced in 2002, where Arab nations offered to normalize relations with Israel in exchange for an agreement between Israel and the Palestinians on the creation of a Palestinian state and Israel’s full withdrawal from territories occupied in 1967—will be reaffirmed.
