Attempted homicide in a village of Rethymnon – The perpetrators are involved in an earlier case of feud

Local community upset by the incident - No injuries or damage caused by the shooting

Newsroom February 17 10:00

An attempted homicide occurred at noon on Saturday (Feb. 15) in a village of Amari in the prefecture of Rethymnon, causing upheaval in the local community.

The chronicle of the attempted homicide

According to neakriti.gr, two brothers were in a rural area performing field work. One of the two, aged 32, left the spot in his farm vehicle, taking his wife and their two minor children, aged 8 and 3, with him, in order to go to their animals.

During the course of the trip, their vehicle encountered another car, in which a father and his son were riding. The young passenger exited the car and, holding a shotgun, fired toward the pickup truck where the 32-year-old man, his wife and minor children were riding. There were no injuries or damage as a result of the shooting.

They also went to the field where the other family members had remained

Shortly afterwards, the offenders headed to the field where the 32-year-old’s brother had remained with the landowner and a labourer. There, waiting for them on foot was the perpetrator’s second son.

Once the two perpetrators reached the field, one allegedly verbally attacked the 23-year-old (the 32-year-old’s brother), while the second allegedly pointed a shotgun at him and fired from a distance of about ten meters. The young man was lucky as the shot did not hit him and to escape he jumped into a ravine.

Subsequently, the assailants left the scene. Authorities proceeded to arrest the pedestrian son, while the other two perpetrators surrendered the next day before the auto-custody period expired. The latter two were detained, while the former was released. The two families appear to have a history of conflict.

The perpetrators and their family were involved in an earlier feud case

The perpetrators and their family were reportedly involved in an earlier feud case, which had led to a murder, where it was resolved through a slash and relations were restored.
