MyStreet: New complaints app for public spaces

Citizens will be able to find out whether public spaces have been legally allocated to private individuals and if they detect ptoblems, they will be able to submit a complaint immediately

Newsroom February 19 12:41

The creation of a digital observatory to address the widespread encroachment of public common areas by bench seats or other arbitrary constructions is envisaged in a multi-bill of the Ministry of Digital Governance that has been put to public consultation.

According to the promoted regulations, in the near future the electronic application “mystreet” will be implemented, where citizens will have the opportunity to find out in real time whether public spaces have been legally granted to private individuals and to what extent, and in case they detect arbitrary acts, they can immediately submit a complaint.

The application will follow the model and logic of the platform already operating to address beach trespassing by sunbeds and umbrellas.

In addition, it is developing an information system called “Register of Registration of Public Space Use Permits“, which is accessible through the Single Digital Portal of Public Administration (gov.gr) and which is maintained by the General Secretariat of Information Systems and Digital Governance of the Ministry of Digital Governance. This information system is used by municipalities in order to register the permits of shops located within the municipality, through which it is possible to identify the section that is arbitrarily occupied in the common area by the shop, in relation to the section that has been legally granted by the municipality, in order to identify discrepancies and inform the competent bodies, either by autopsy or through the submission of a complaint by citizens.
