Georgiadis to Konstantopoulou: “I’ll accept life imprisonment if linked to Tempi tragedy – She’s poisoning public opinion”

The Health Minister accused Mrs Konstantopoulou of trying to exploit the mourning of the victims politically, by deliberately delaying the trial

Newsroom February 20 06:00

In a strongly-worded response, Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis addressed claims made by Zoe Konstantopoulou, who accused him of “personal involvement” in the tragic Tempi accident.

In a social media post, Georgiadis labeled the remarks made by the president of the “Plefsi Eleftherias” party as defamatory and baseless. He stated that if any order from him related to the management of the tragedy were found, he would accept a life sentence.

The Health Minister accused Konstantopoulou of exploiting the victims’ grief for political gain by deliberately delaying the trial using legal tricks. He also launched a fierce attack on her political rhetoric, accusing her of fostering “toxicity” and “base instincts.” Georgiadis suggested that Konstantopoulou sought to gain political advantage ahead of the upcoming elections and criticized her tenure as Speaker of the House, claiming she had caused public “revulsion.”

Georgiadis concluded his post by urging society to “resist” such practices, warning of the dangers of spreading toxicity in the political sphere.

In his post, Georgiadis wrote:

“If Zoe Konstantopoulou finds any personal order of mine given to any official involved in the management of the Tempi tragedy at any point in time, without a trial, I will accept a life sentence! I write this emphatically so you can understand the malice of this woman. She entered Parliament with hearts to make the public forget the revulsion they felt for her when she held the position of Speaker of the House. She succeeded by deceiving voters. Now, with the grief of the victims as her vehicle, she is deliberately poisoning Greece, using legal tricks to delay the trial (she has filed lawsuits against almost all political figures present at the scene, along with service officials, firefighters, police officers, forensic experts, and even the examining judge) to maximize her political gain before the next elections and slanders anyone, like me now, revealing her true motives! We must not allow people with such base instincts to lead Greece into chaos and toxicity. Those who find me exaggerated, ask the employees of the Parliament who have never experienced the kind of tyranny she imposed on them. Do not let emotion lead you down this slippery slope. Greece must once again resist toxicity. We have recent experience of how this toxicity can harm our society.”

What Zoe Konstantopoulou had said:

It is recalled that Zoe Konstantopoulou, speaking on Action 24 on Thursday morning, claimed that Health Minister Georgiadis was “screaming because he has personal involvement in the crime,” stating that he was Development Minister when funds were allocated for the filling of the Tempi accident site by his deputy.

Konstantopoulou also suggested that other individuals were involved, primarily Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and emphasized that the trains were operating blindly, with the state bearing responsibility for the events of that tragic night.
