Out-of-court mechanism: 46.51% increase in successful debt settlements in January 2025

€10.01 billion in adjusted initial debts - New applications continued at high levels

Successful debt settlements in Greece under the out-of-court mechanism rose 46.51% this January compared to January 2024. Specifically, 1,575 arrangements corresponding to €515 million of debts were made, compared to 1,075 arrangements corresponding to €425 million of debts in January last year.

Both new applications and final applications in January 2025 continued at high levels, with 5,150 and 2,760 applications in January 2025, respectively.

At the same time, 2,673 vulnerable households benefited from debt adjustments in accordance with the statutory compulsion, registering an increase of 10.36% compared to December 2024. In addition, 154 debtors managed to suspend scheduled auctions by making use of the advance payment measure.

To date, the total number of successful settlements stands at 30,515 and the total value of settled debts at €10.01 billion. This is an increase of 132.92% compared to January 2024 when the total number of successful settlements was 13,101 and the value of settled debts was €4.79 billion.

At the monthly Progress Report on the Progress of the out-of-court mechanism also publishes data on the status of red loans remaining in banks, but also on the bilateral settlements implemented in December 2024 by the Loan and Credit Claims Management Companies: the four largest companies carried out settlements worth a total of €412.5 million for 7,480 debtors. The majority of these arrangements were for mortgage loans for 3 out of 4 creditors in different types of arrangement.

It is recalled that, in order to make more effective use of the available debt settlement tools, the General Secretariat of the Financial Sector and Private Debt Management provides nationwide service by video call or by telephone by appointment via the platform or by phone at 2132125730.
