Boy who was abducted in 2017 in Atlanta found – Important role of Netflix documentary “Unsolved Mysteries”

It had been kidnapped by his mother, who was a wanted woman - A call to the police for burglary helped solve the case

Newsroom March 5 10:00

A boy who was abducted in 2017 in Atlanta, Georgia, was found unharmed after his case was featured on Netflix’s popular show “Unsolved Mysteries.

How they found Abdul Aziz Khan

Abdul Aziz Khan, 14, was located by Colorado authorities in late February. The child was found during a burglary investigation at a Douglas home on Feb. 23. When officers arrived on the scene, they found two children in a car outside the home, and the owners had alerted authorities via security camera to the presence of strangers on their property.

He had been abducted by his mother

Upon examination of the evidence, officers identified two suspects, 42-year-old Elliot Blake Bourgeois and 40-year-old Rabia Khalid. It was revealed that Khalid was Abdul’s mother who was a wanted woman.

She had an arrest warrant from 2017 as she had disappeared with her son and new husband, violating a court order regarding child custody.

Khalid and Bourgeois were arrested and held in jail, charged with second-degree kidnapping, forgery, identity theft, providing false information to authorities, and unlawful entry onto foreign property. Their bail was set at $1,000,000.

The case that shocked the US

Abdul’s disappearance was related to a long-running custody dispute between his father and Khalid. After the couple split in 2014, the mother moved her son from New Orleans to Atlanta and limited the child’s contact with his father. When it became clear she was in danger of losing custody, she disappeared with him.

The airing of the case on “Unsolved Mysteries” appears to have played a significant role in the investigation, with authorities expressing gratitude for the show’s contribution.
