The European Space Agency gives you €5,000 to lie down for 10 days – The conditions to participate in the program

Volunteers will lie down for 10 days as part of the Vivaldi III project

Newsroom March 14 09:06

For busy people, the idea of spending 10 days lying around watching shows and movies sounds ideal. But there are some people who can be paid 5,000 euros to…lie down.

The European Space Agency (ESA) is recruiting volunteers to lie down for 10 days, as part of the Vivaldi III project being carried out in Clinic Medes at the University Hospital of Toulouse. As for the fee, it is 5,000 euros.

The purpose of the study is to determine the effects of spaceflight on the human body, according to the Daily Mail. The 10 volunteers will lie down in a kind of “bathtub” covered in a waterproof fabric that will keep them dry.

The only downside? The visit to the bathroom.

“For toilet breaks, participants are temporarily transferred to a trolley, maintaining their lying position at all times,” according to ESA.

Requirements for participation

The experiment will be conducted on 20 volunteers and is open to men only. The volunteers will be hospitalized for 21 days and must be 20 to 40 years old, healthy, non-smokers, with a height of 1.65 to 1.80, a body mass index of 20 to 26, good mental health which will also be certified through an interview, free of allergies, free of medication and free of drug and alcohol dependence.

Baseline measurements will be taken during the first five days, and participants will spend the next 10 days lying down.

“Volunteers will take part in a wide range of medical experiments and scientific studies to help researchers understand how space affects the human body. During meals, they use a floating board and a neck pillow,” according to ESA.

At the same time, cell phone communication is allowed without restrictions, but visiting and leaving the clinic is prohibited.
