The deputy minister of development, Aristos Doxiadis announced his resignation a day after being sworn in.
As he announced the reason for his resignation, “the immoral war unleashed against me by the opposition, with unsubstantiated attacks already from the first day of my swearing-in to the government, landed me abruptly in the harsh political reality.”
His resignation was accepted by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and his replacement is expected in the coming days.
See in detail the post of Aristos Doxiadis:
“I have decided to resign.
The immoral war unleashed against me by the opposition, with unsubstantiated attacks already from the first day of my swearing in to the government, landed me abruptly in the harsh political reality.
To those who accused me of the APOLLON company case, I reply that I have been tried and acquitted by a criminal court in 2013, which explicitly cleared me of all charges related to what the opposition is now accusing me of. I add that since the court ended, I have had no harassment from any authority, even though so many governments have changed. Therefore, much ado about nothing.
Because I do not want to waste my life in such disputes, I have decided to resign as Deputy Minister of Research and Innovation, both for personal peace of mind and to protect the government and the portfolio I have taken on from a witch-hunt.
I warmly thank the Prime Minister for his honourable recommendation for this portfolio which is so important for the future. I regret that political toxicity prevents active citizens from contributing to collective efforts for progress.”
