PAO – AEK 3-1, PAOK – Olympiacos 2-1 and the battle for 2nd place is on fire – The reds remain at +10 (videos)

Olympiacos, despite their defeat in Toumba, remained at a safe distance from 2nd place - Panathinaikos and AEK are now tied there after the greens' 3-1 win at OAKA, but they feel the breath of PAOK, who are at -1

Newsroom April 7 01:01

Olympiacos missed the chance to be crowned mathematically champions today, but remains within a safe distance of 2nd place as four games before the final of Super League 1 it has 10 points more than Panathinaikos and AEK.

The greens managed to prevail in the final with 3-1 over AEK and get their first win in the play-offs, but mainly a huge psychological breather, increasing the whining and introversion in the Union that saw whatever advantage it had with the final of the regular season go to waste with the two consecutive defeats.

On the contrary, PAOK’s transformation in the play-offs (they have been defeated in the process since last year’s 6th matchday when they lost 2-1 at Karaiskakis to Olympiacos) continues with last year’s champions making it 2×2, prevailing 2-1 over Olympiacos and now claiming with real chances the 2nd place and the ticket for the Champions League qualifiers.

Regarding the play-outs, Volos was left at 0-0 at home with Panaitolikos and is now in the penultimate place (which leads to Super League 2) as it is behind Athens Kallithea.

Panathinaikos – AEK 3-1

The two losers of the Super League 1 play-off premiere faced each other at OAKA, with AEK having a better image than Panathinaikos, but the greens prevailing 3-1 and catching them in the standings.

PAO started well and was lucky to take the lead in the 17th minute with Maksimovic, with Enosi then dominating, pressing, winning consecutive corners and finally finding the equalizer in the 47th minute with Mukundi (after a corner). The equalizer at the start of the second half shocked the home team and gave wings to the guests who were constantly on the attack, but in the big moments that Piero created, he missed them and AEK paid for it.

Initially in the 80th minute, Djurisic, who had come off the bench with a placekick, beat Brignoli (he is responsible) and after the Union players all came forward for the equalizer, in the 88th minute, Yeremeyev formed the final score.

PAOK – Olympiacos 2-1

PAOK, who had not won a single derby in the regular season of the championship, after the double at OPAP Arena also defeated Olympiacos in Toumba and entered the trap of 2nd place for good (they are now -1 behind PAO and AEK while they started the process from -4 and -7 respectively).

The Two-Headed achieved the absolute surprise as in the 5th minute Konstantelas and in the 11th minute Kamara made it 2-0, with the red and whites, despite the presence of El Kaabi and Yaremchuk in the starting lineup, being harmless offensively.

Piraeus managed to re-enter the match in the 52nd minute with an own goal by Michaelides, but despite the pressure they exerted and the fact that from the 75th minute they were playing with an extra player (Kamaras was sent off), they were unable to equalize.

Volos – Panetolikos 0-0

The home team was the team that was burning for the three points as they have been watching Kallithea since Saturday night, however, no matter how hard they searched for the goal, they did not succeed. In the first half, the match was quite balanced, but without many phases and with a penalty for the guests which was canceled via VAR. In the second half, Volos pressed more, had some opportunities, to touch the goal in the 7th minute of injury time, but Juanpi’s foul ended up hitting the post.

Aris – OFI 2-0

Aris scored its second win in as many games in the Play Off 5-8. Marinos Ouzounidis’ team defeated OFI 2-0 at “Kleanthis Vikelidis”, moved six points clear of Atromitos – at least until Monday – and seems to be the undisputed favorite to take fifth place. The Thessaloniki team was much more pressing in the first half, but they were unable to score. They did so in their “bad” 45th minute, with two goals from Laurent Moron (pen. 61’, 90’+3’), with the Cretans barely threatening the opposing goal.

Levadiakos – Panserraikos 3-0

Levadiakos made it “2 for 2” in the Super League play-outs and essentially “locked” its stay in the division, defeating Panserraikos 3-0 in Livadia. Ozbolt in the 28th minute, Liagas in the 44th minute and Zini with a penalty in the 80th minute were the scorers for the Viotians, who had opportunities for even more goals. The Macedonian team, which was completely harmless, maintains its distance from the relegation zone, but cannot yet feel safe.

Lamia – Athens Kallithea 0-2

Athens Kallithea was the winner in the Super League bottom-of-the-table match, as it defeated Lamia 2-0 at “Athanassios Diakos”, for the 2nd matchday of the play-outs. Thanks to goals from Alfarelas in the 15th minute and Lebon in the 78th minute, Stelios Malezas’ team took the “precious” three points and got out of the relegation zone, at least temporarily (they surpassed Volos, who host Panaitolikos). At the same time, they increased their gap to nine points over Lamia, which is now looking for a small miracle to stay in the division.
