Handelsblatt: China and Europe in negotiations to abolish tariffs on electric cars

Sources in China speak of a broader plan whereby the two sides will invest significant funds in the co-production of electric vehicles on European soil

Newsroom April 10 11:00

Brussels and Beijing have already begun discussions – still at an early stage – to reach a common line on the electric vehicle issue, German newspaper Handelsblatt reports, citing sources from both the European Union and China.

According to the European sources, Brussels is currently willing to discuss even zeroing out the tariff that Europe has imposed on electric vehicles mass-produced by China and boosting their imports into the European market.

Chinese sources, for their part, appear to be talking about a broader plan whereby Europe and China will invest significant funds in the coming years in the co-production of electric vehicles on European soil.

Any Western troops in Ukraine will be considered “legitimate targets”, Russia warns

Trump’s tariffs on the entire world and the economic war that the US president has officially declared on China, with tariffs currently reaching 145%, have globally opened up discussions with Beijing.

Indicative of the situation and the new facts brought by US policy and the unrefuted news that China, South Korea and Japan are also in a first – but not “rough” – level of economic and defense discussions.
