Theodoricacos: The government is moving with a plan and strategy, the opposition has no proposals for the future of the country

The Minister noted that for geostrategic reasons Greece must maintain strong strategic ties with the US

Newsroom April 11 06:30

“The freeze of tariffs for 90 days is a positive development, as there is a possibility for important discussions with the US,” the development minister said, Takis Theodorikakos, speaking to ERT and pointed out that the possible imposition of tariffs will lead to a recession in major export economies and this will affect all countries, including Greece. That is why it is very important, he stressed, to accelerate the productive reconstruction of the Greek economy, focusing on industry, manufacturing, innovation, and the stimulation of the primary sector.

The minister noted that for geostrategic reasons, Greece must maintain strong strategic ties with the US, and Europe must formulate a unified strategy for discussions to take place this quarter that will bring mutually acceptable solutions. “We live in a difficult and troubled region, and we must preserve the security of our homeland,” he added.

Theodoricakos also spoke about the new development law that will be passed in the near future, with priority given to border regions and regions with lower income. “We are directing our efforts towards strengthening industry for a more resilient economy, but also strengthening the border regions of our country. Woe betide us if the flow of citizens from the borders to Athens continues,” he pointed out.

Regarding the prices of lamb, Theodoricakos – speaking to OPEN – said that “we produce only 20% of the quantities we consume. If we do not change the country’s production model, we will be vulnerable to the storms that are affecting humanity.”

On the investment projects under the 2004 and 2011 development laws that were initiated and never completed, he said, “We will go through one by one the projects that were funded and never implemented. We will go after every last euro. We care about the taxpayer’s money.”

In the case of Tempi, Theodoricakos stressed that “it is an obligation to shine the truth and justice for Tempe because it is a national tragedy. We have no reason to cover up absolutely nothing. We want it as citizens, as a party, as a government. We cannot be judged individually. The political forces must be serious. We should let justice do its job.”

On the opposition parties, he said that “unfortunately, amid serious turmoil in the world system, instead of discussing how to join forces, some political forces are using a major tragedy just for the sake of opposition.”

Finally, on Ms. Konstantopoulou, he commented: “She has a political discourse that is not related to proposals for today and tomorrow of the country. Because she is a dynamic personality, she fills the gaps of the opposition. In the future, I see her arguing mainly with Mr. Tsipras.”
