The tremors were felt in many areas of western Attica, with seismologists Gerasimos Papadopoulos and Akis Tselendis giving clarifications and advice via social media.

Gerasimos Papadopoulos: “Minor activation of the Filis fault”

Gerasimos Papadopoulos, via a post on his personal Facebook account, noted: “Earthquakes of small magnitude, less than 3, in the last hour in Attica, north of Magoula, south of Skourta. Preliminary solutions indicate rather small activation of the Filis fault on the southern fringes of Parnitha.

Akis Tselentis: “We’re on it”

For his part, Akis Tselentis took a stand, noting: “Since noon there are some micro-earthquakes in Elefsina – Mandra. Without being able to say anything more specific yet, however, we are monitoring it. Keep in mind the known precautionary measures. We had the same phenomenon several times in the past WITHOUT having a major earthquake.”
