El Sisi at Maximou with Mitsotakis – His messages on illegal migration & close cooperation with Greece

We are interested in stability, said the Egyptian President from the Presidential Palace where he was earlier

Newsroom May 7 01:07

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis warmly welcomed the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El Sisi, when the former went to the Maximou Mansion after his brief meeting earlier with the President of the Republic, Konstantinos Tasoulas.

Immediately after the Mitsotakis-El Sisi one-on-one meeting, the Supreme Council will meet and, finally, the two leaders will make statements to the media

A key parameter of the meeting between Mitsotakis and El Sisi is international law to address challenges and promote regional stability, at a time when the geopolitical landscape in the region is being reshaped. During the meeting of the two leaders, the latest regional developments in Gaza, Syria and Libya will be discussed.

Messages on migration and cooperation with Greece

In his response after being received by Konstantine Tasoulas, El-Sisi referred to the scope for improving Greece’s relations with Egypt, while his reference to migration was special.

He said the Egyptian president noted that there are 9 million people who want to leave Gaza and go to Egypt. “We want the Palestinians to stay in the Gaza Strip,” he said in this context.

Since 2016, Egypt has not been a bridge for migrants to leave for Europe, El-Sisi further noted, adding “this for us is a moral and humanitarian issue. We do not want to create a problem for our European partners.”

“We are saying to deal with illegal immigration but legal immigration also needs coordination,” the Egyptian president continued.

El-Sisi, after extending “warm greetings to the friendly Greek people”, stressed that his country is in favour of peace, stressing that coordination between Greece and Egypt aims at the stability of the region.

“Both we and Greece are interested in stability,” Abdel Fattah El-Sisi concluded.
