Incident at the Urban Planning of Chania: Pushed and punched employee and the deputy mayor

Thermal engineers of a hotel under construction in Chania reacted strongly to planning violations found in the construction

An unprecedented incident of bickering, shoving, and violence occurred at noon on Friday at the Chania Urban Planning Department, on the occasion, according to zarpanews.gr, urban planning violations found in a large hotel under construction.

More specifically, three engineers of the hotel entered the department asking for explanations in a strong manner as to the violations, while the remarks of the officials were considered “provocation,” to which they responded with pushing and swearing.

A few minutes after the initial episode ended, one of the three engineers returned to the planning office, found the official, and, after a verbal confrontation, attacked him with fists and found a machete, which he even broke in two.

Deputy Mayor Nikos Hazirakis got involved in the incident to defend the employee, and apart from the physical assaults, the hot-blooded hotel surveyor threw a container filled with coffee at him.

Police immediately arrived at the scene, but the alleged assailant had already left. The department will be filing charges in this regard.
