Pope Leo XIII addressed the major world powers in his first Sunday message from St. Peter’s Square, calling for an end to all wars. The newly elected pope, who took office on May 8, appealed to global leaders for “genuine and lasting peace.”

In his message, Pope Leo XIII emphasized the need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine, a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, and the liberation of all Israeli hostages. He also welcomed the recent ceasefire between India and Pakistan and prayed to God to grant the world “the miracle of peace.”
