Weather: Temperature rises today, winds strengthen from tomorrow – A new warm invasion is coming

A June with a high frequency of string winds - The forecast until Saturday

Newsroom July 1 08:26

With winds dominating and increasing the risk of fire, the new week will roll on with the heat being more intense to the west and north, according to forecasters.

In his forecast, Thodoris Kolydas said that he expects a strengthening of the wind on Wednesday and Thursday with a full 7 Beaufort and only from Friday and until the end of the week lower intensities of 5 to 6 Beaufort are expected, but will be followed by a rise in temperature.

Arnautoglou: New heat invasion from July 5

According to Sakis Arnaoutoglou‘s forecast, the weather will show a temporary change today, with showers and local thunderstorms occurring in eastern Macedonia and Thrace. On Wednesday, the phenomena will shift towards central Macedonia, while winds will strengthen again, mainly in the Aegean. From Thursday and Friday, the weather stabilizes and returns to a summer pattern, without phenomena.

41°C in cities-campuses

From Friday July 5 and for at least four days, the country will face a new heat wave. As Sakis Arnaoutoglou warns, the peak is expected on the weekend of July 7-8, when the temperature will reach 39 degrees in most continental areas.

However, in closed lowland areas far from the sea, but also in large urban centers such as Athens, Larissa and Thessaloniki, it is not excluded that the thermometer will “hit red” with values up to 40 or 41 degrees Celsius.

A June with a high frequency of strong winds

This June was characterised by a very large number of days with strong winds, 24 days out of 30 this month. This is significantly higher than any of the last 17 Junes. There is also a clear trend of an increase in strong melts in June over the last 4 years.

We also note the days in June 2025 with the strongest winds:

11/06/2025: 72.4 km/h maximum gust (the highest of the month)
28/06/2025: 64.4 km/h maximum gust
