A decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, which met in rotation and approved the recommendations of Justice Minister George Florides, appointed the new leadership of the Supreme Court and the Prosecutor’s Office of the Supreme Court.

The position of the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court will be taken over by Konstantinos Tzavellas, who received a positive opinion and the vote of confidence of his colleagues during the recent selection process.

Mr Tzavellas has served as press spokesman of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and president of the Association of Public Prosecutors. In addition, he served as a supervising prosecutor at the Anti-Terrorism Service for eight years, until 2023. His tenure as a top prosecutor is expected to last one year, as he is retiring soon.

Anastasia Papadopoulou, who was previously vice-president, will be appointed president of the Supreme Court. Ms Papadopoulou has served for 36 years in the judiciary and was promoted to vice president in August 2024.

Her term is expected to end in June 2026, at which time she will retire.
