Swimming: Yarenis wins five medals at the World Masters Championships

Aphrodite Yarenis takes four golds and one silver in Singapore – Greece finishes with 11 medals in total

Aphrodite Yarenis emerged as the standout performer for Greece at the World Masters Swimming Championships in Singapore, claiming five medals — four gold and one silver — in the individual events. The competition concluded on Wednesday (August 13) with an impressive showing by the Greek delegation.

In total, Greece brought home 11 medals: 5 gold, 3 silver, and 3 bronze.

Competing in the 30–34 age category, Yarenis won gold in:

  • Women’s 50m Backstroke (29.74)
  • 200m Backstroke (2:22.93)
  • 200m Individual Medley (2:21.78)
  • 100m Backstroke (1:03.44)

She also secured silver in the 100m Butterfly (1:02.30).

In the 40–44 age category, Christos Papadopoulos won gold in the Men’s 400m Individual Medley (4:54.26), silver in the 800m Freestyle (9:09.41), and bronze in the 200m Breaststroke (2:28.13).

In the 45–49 age category, Georgia Chatzigeorgiou took silver in the Women’s 200m Backstroke (2:41.69) and bronze in the 100m Freestyle (1:01.93).

Finally, in the 55–59 age category, Aris Ioannidis earned bronze in the Men’s 100m Butterfly.

The championships conclude on Thursday (August 14) with the team relay events. For the first time in the history of the competition, Greece will field a team in the 160–199 combined age category in the Mixed 4x50m Medley Relay and Mixed 4x50m Freestyle Relay. Representing Greece will be Aphrodite Yarenis, Georgia Chatzigeorgiou, Kosmas Kouris, and Ioannis Mavridakis.
