At least 15 killed in an Israeli raid on a hospital in Gaza – Journalists among them

Among the dead are journalists, including one from Reuters and a cameraman from Al Jazeera – The Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis has once again come under attack

Newsroom August 25 09:34

A heavy airstrike hit the Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza, killing at least 15 people, according to the Hamas-run Health Ministry. Among the dead are several journalists.

According to the ministry’s statement, two successive strikes occurred. The first targeted the hospital’s fourth floor, while the second struck as ambulances and rescue workers were attempting to recover the wounded and the dead. Gaza authorities reported “many casualties.”

The Israeli military and the office of Prime Minister Netanyahu did not immediately comment on the incident. Nasser Hospital, located in Khan Younis, has endured attacks and bombardments throughout nearly two years of war.

This is not the first time the hospital has been targeted. Last June, an Israeli raid killed three people, with Israel at the time claiming it was a “targeted strike” against Hamas fighters.

According to Al Jazeera, one of its staff members, cameraman Mohammed Salameh, was among those killed. In a statement posted on Instagram, the network confirmed his death and reported that a total of three journalists were killed in the strike.

Palestinian health officials also said that among the victims was a journalist working for the international news agency Reuters, though no further details were provided. A freelance journalist working for the Associated Press was also killed.
