musicAeterna Byzantina at the Koufonisia Classical Music Festival

Dedicated to the Nativity of the Theotokos, the program will feature hymns and psalms

musicAeterna Byzantina will present a concert of Byzantine chant tradition, conducted by Antonios Koutroupis, with world-renowned Lebanese interpreter of Byzantine music Ribal Wehbe as soloist.

Dedicated to the Nativity of the Theotokos, the program will include hymns and psalms resounding in the historic church for the first time, creating a mystical atmosphere of spiritual elevation.

“Five Millennia of Greek Sound”

musicAeterna Byzantina presents the Byzantine musical tradition as part of a musical journey spanning from antiquity to the 21st century, directed by Michael Marmarinos. The performance will feature ancient Greek music, Byzantine chant, medieval and Renaissance works, traditional repertoire, as well as compositions by Iannis Xenakis and Giorgos Koumendakis.

    The event will be held for a limited audience by invitation and broadcast internationally in recorded form, aiming for broad outreach.

About musicAeterna Byzantina

Founded in 2018 by internationally acclaimed conductor Teodor Currentzis as part of the musicAeterna “family,” musicAeterna Byzantina is composed of Greek and Cypriot professional choristers distinguished for their vocal clarity, authenticity of style, and intense interpretive expression. In its seven years of existence, the choir has won over even the most demanding audiences, with a highlight being its participation in the Salzburg Festival in 2021.

The ensemble focuses on tonal perfection, vocal control, strict ecclesiastical style, and above all the mystical power of interpretation.
