Regarding the crash in Filothei – The videos from the Cretan celebration before he rammed into the cars

The actor had attended the local Cretans’ association celebration in Metamorfosi, where a knife fight broke out – What the new Highway Code provides for leaving the scene of an accident

Newsroom September 29 08:30

This morning, Vasilis Bispikis is expected to appear at the Evelpidon courthouse over the traffic accident in Filothei. Yesterday afternoon, he presented himself at the First Traffic Police Department of Northeast Attica and admitted that he was the driver of the pickup truck which, in the early hours of Saturday, crashed into three parked cars and a wall in Filothei before fleeing the scene.

The well-known actor was arrested for the crash, spent the night in custody at Kifisia’s Traffic Department, and will be brought before the prosecutor.

At the same time, authorities have seized the massive pickup truck he used to ram into the vehicles on Doiranis Street.

The penalties he faces

Based on the new Highway Code, abandoning the scene of a traffic accident with property damage is punishable by a fine, withdrawal of the driver’s license, and criminal prosecution under Article 290A of the Penal Code for dangerous driving.

The videos from the celebration

Police are continuing to investigate how the 48-year-old lost control of the pickup and slammed into the three cars. One scenario under consideration is that the actor was driving under the influence of alcohol, above the legal limit. In his testimony, he said he had attended a Cretan celebration in Metamorfosi earlier that night.

Protothema.gr published two videos from the hours before the Filothei crash, showing Bispikis enjoying himself at the event organized by the local Cretans’ association on Friday night.

The 48-year-old is first seen seated at the front tables chatting with friends, then later went up toward the stage, where, in high spirits, he sang and danced along with music performed by a well-known Cretan lyra player.

Shortly afterward—according to his statement—he took the massive pickup truck and headed home, causing the accident in Filothei.

Less alcohol and lower speeds with the new Highway Code and strict fines

It is worth noting that on the same night, during the celebration Bispikis attended in Metamorfosi, a violent brawl broke out between about 20 people, leaving two hospitalized with serious knife injuries.

What the Highway Code provides

According to the new Highway Code, leaving the scene of a traffic accident with property damage (as also specified in Article 43 of the old Code) carries penalties for the driver including fines, suspension of driver’s license, and prosecution under Article 290A of the Penal Code for dangerous driving. The severity of penalties depends on whether the driver is a repeat offender—first offenses result in fines and temporary license suspension, while repeat offenses bring harsher measures.
