Ozzy wished to die after failed neck surgery: “He was in so much pain he couldn’t take it”

“He would just tell me he wanted to go,” said the legendary singer’s wife, Sharon Osbourne

Newsroom October 7 06:11

The physical and mental pain that Ozzy Osbourne experienced after a failed neck surgery is described in the upcoming documentary “Ozzy: No Escape from Now”, filmed between 2021 and 2025. The heavy metal legend, who passed away last July, suffered so much that, according to Sharon Osbourne, there were moments when he wished he could die.

Two years after his neck surgery in 2019, Osbourne was feeling increasingly weak each day, realizing that something was wrong. As his wife later revealed, doctors informed them that the surgeon had “caused even greater damage” by inserting metal plates that were unnecessary.

“Some days he wishes he were dead. He’s in so much pain he can’t bear it. He just tells me he wants to go,” 72-year-old Sharon said in the documentary. Ozzy himself added: “The thought that I would never play live again sent me into depression. I’m on antidepressants now. I had reached the point where I was preparing to end my life — but then I think to myself, ‘What the hell are you saying?’ Because knowing me, I’d mess it up, I’d be half dead. I wouldn’t really die, you know?”

Meanwhile, his son Jack expressed his anger over the medical error: “It makes me so angry because I feel like this all could have been avoided. The Parkinson’s is progressing, but the biggest issue is the nerve damage from the bad neck surgery.”

Elsewhere in the documentary, the legendary singer confessed that he had apologized to his wife because he felt like “a burden.” He also admitted that he wanted everyone to “just leave him alone,” even though his condition made it impossible for him to be on his own.
