Kozani: Bear swims across Lake Polyfytos

A rare and impressive sight was captured at Lake Polyfytos, where a bear was seen swimming across the lake’s waters. The bear swam calmly, seemingly unfazed by the presence of people or a nearby boat

Newsroom October 17 10:03

The bear began its journey from Kranidia, Servia, and covered a distance of about 20 kilometers toward Kaisareia, Kozani, swimming for more than 90 minutes. According to witnesses, the bear remained in the water throughout the entire crossing and did not appear to tire.

The extraordinary event was recorded on a mobile phone by Thanasis Gambouras, a professional fisherman who was out on his boat on the lake.

“I was anxious to see if it would make it to shore — and also a bit afraid it might approach my boat,” he said, noting that he had never seen anything like it on Lake Polyfytos before.
