Weather today: Scattered thunderstorms and a new wave of bad weather from tomorrow – When improvement is expected

Significant rainfall yesterday in the southern parts of the country – The EMY forecast through Saturday

Unstable weather conditions are expected today as well, with local showers and thunderstorms mainly affecting the southern and eastern regions of the country.
In Attica, rain is expected mainly in the morning hours, while temperatures will range from 16 to 21°C. Winds will be northeasterly, 3 to 4 Beaufort.

Starting tomorrow, Wednesday, October 22, a new wave of bad weather is expected to initially affect western and northern Greece, bringing intense phenomena. The weather will remain generally unstable with rain and storms in many regions, while the system is expected to subside by the evening of Thursday, October 23.

Notably, temperatures are expected to rise from Saturday, October 25, with mercury reaching up to 28°C in some areas, showing a trend of further increase toward the end of the month. Meteorologists warn of another weather disturbance around October 27–28.

Significant rainfall yesterday in the southern parts of the country

Heavy rainfall occurred in southern Greece on Monday, October 20.
According to measurements from the meteo.gr / National Observatory of Athens automatic weather station network, the highest recorded rainfall up to 18:00 was 67.2 mm in Psathi, Megalopolis.
In the accompanying map, rainfall distribution is shown along with the 8 stations with the highest totals. Additional data indicate that rainfall exceeding 1 mm was recorded at 203 of the 542 active weather stations (~37%).

Cloudiness with rain and thunderstorms is expected mainly in the Peloponnese, Eastern Central Greece, Euboea, the Central and Southern Aegean, and Crete.
Elsewhere, scattered and temporary showers will occur. Dust concentrations in the southern and western regions will be increased.

  • Rest of Macedonia & Thrace: 7–20°C
  • Thessaly: 13–20°C
  • Epirus: 10–21°C
  • Central Greece & Peloponnese: 13–22°C

  • Cyclades: 17–26°C
  • Dodecanese: 17–25°C

  • Aegean: Northeasterly 2–4 Beaufort (southerly in Dodecanese 2–4 Bf)
  • Ionian: Variable up to 3 Bf, gradually turning southerly 2–4 Bf
  • Attica: Cloudy with rain until morning; slight chance of light local showers later. Winds initially northerly up to 3 Bf, becoming southerly by afternoon. Temperature in central Athens: 16–21°C.
  • Thessaloniki: Cloudy with a small chance of brief light showers. Winds easterly to southerly up to 3 Bf. Temperature in the city center: 15–18°C.

Weather on Wednesday, October 22

In the Ionian Sea and western mainland, increased clouds with rain intensifying from midday and scattered thunderstorms.
In the eastern Aegean islands and Dodecanese, cloudy with local rain and possibly isolated storms.
Elsewhere, thin clouds gradually thickening with local showers in mainland areas and the northern Aegean.

In the Ionian, western mainland, eastern Aegean, and Dodecanese, locally increased clouds with a chance of local showers.
Elsewhere, partly cloudy at intervals. Visibility locally limited in the early morning and evening hours.

  • Winds: Southerly 3–4 Bf, 5–6 Bf in the Aegean.
  • Temperature: Slight rise across the country.

Weather on Saturday, October 25

In Thrace, the eastern Aegean, Cyclades, and Crete, increased clouds at intervals with a chance of light local rain in the eastern Aegean.
Elsewhere, few passing clouds. Morning visibility locally limited.

  • Winds: West–southwesterly 3–4 Bf, locally 5–6 Bf in the Aegean.
  • Temperature: No significant change.
