Vorizia shooting: Cousin of Fanouris Kargakis’ brother-in-law arrested — Identified from Kalashnikov in the video

Police have arrested and identified a second suspect seen in the video alongside the brother-in-law of Fanouris Kargakis, who was killed in the deadly shootout in Vorizia, Heraklion

Newsroom November 6 05:03

According to police sources, the second man is a 25-year-old cousin of the 43-year-old accused brother-in-law. In the video, he appears surveying the area during the shooting.

The 43-year-old brother-in-law of Fanouris Kargakis has already been charged with intentional homicide of 56-year-old Evangelia Frangkiadaki and attempted homicide in succession and in complicity.

He was arrested during a police operation at his livestock farm and has been brought before the investigating magistrate. He was given until Monday to testify, according to cretalive.gr.
Reports from neakriti.gr state that he denies all involvement in the deadly incident.

Earlier, the accused was taken to the Heraklion Courthouse, wearing a bulletproof vest and escorted by a strong police presence.

Authorities say his arrest was made under the flagrante delicto procedure for illegal possession of weapons, as video evidence shows him firing a Kalashnikov rifle at the scene of the Vorizia shootout.

Testimonies from the Frangkiadaki Family

Members of Evangelia Frangkiadaki’s family testified before the Heraklion Investigating Magistrate, including the mother of the three brothers who surrendered after the 56-year-old’s funeral, and the wife of one of them (the 29-year-old).

According to reports, both women named two members of the Kargakis family as among the four individuals who fired shots during the bloody confrontation.

At the same time, the two injured men hospitalized under police guard at PAGNI Hospital — a 26-year-old brother of those who surrendered, and their 30-year-old cousin — have completed their depositions.
Both are charged with intentional homicide and attempted homicide in succession and jointly.

Two More Detained by Police

On Thursday morning, the Hellenic Police (EL.AS.) launched another operation and detained two more individuals.

According to information, those brought in for questioning appear to be relatives of Fanouris Kargakis, the 39-year-old who was killed in the shootout last Saturday morning.

For now, it remains unclear whether these detentions are connected to the shooting itself or to illegal possession of hidden weapons. Police sources confirm that evidence was found in the homes of both detainees.

  • Victim: 56-year-old Evangelia Frangkiadaki
