The design studio from Larissa with a global footprint

Cursor Design Studio has successfully carved out a reliable and recognizable presence beyond Greece’s borders

Thanasis Diamantopoulos December 10 11:26

Founded in 2002 by Apostolos Tsiovaras, Cursor Design Studio has grown into one of Greece’s most dynamic creative agencies specializing in branding, strategic communication, and design. The studio’s philosophy goes beyond mere aesthetics; it dives deep into the essence of identity—understanding the soul behind every brand. When asked why he chose to base the studio in Larissa rather than a bigger city, Tsiovaras said in a recent phone interview:
“If you can’t leave to go somewhere else, bring ‘somewhere else’ to your place.”

A Greek Studio Making Waves Internationally

Cursor’s footprint in Europe is multifaceted and meaningful. In Scandinavia, the studio designed the restaurant LOU in Copenhagen and the food trading company Gastromarket in Höganäs, Sweden—projects that fuse Nordic minimalism with Mediterranean hospitality and food branding.

In Germany, Cursor collaborated with Leipzig’s Thiseas and Bergheim’s Meraki, creating modern corporate identities that speak the international language of simplicity, functionality, and authenticity. In the UK, their work for the London-based architectural firm Atelier 78 blends high aesthetics with sharp commercial focus.

In Ireland, the studio’s Greek influence shines through the Philotimo project in Dublin, which acts as a cultural bridge linking ancient Greek philosophy with today’s market. In Switzerland, Cursor has delivered notable hospitality projects in Zurich and Truttikon, including branding for Colibri, Apollon, Athina, Oasis, and private sommelier Lukas Kroesen.

Italy’s Tuscany region has been another key market, where projects like Olea Prilis and D’Amare olive oils, along with the Georg Solti Opera Academy, demonstrate Cursor’s ability to navigate markets rich in history and aesthetics without compromising commercial effectiveness. In Cyprus, Cursor completed branding for Cyprus Forum, goALL padel, and Stamataris Architects in Nicosia.

  • Corporate identity for Stamataris Architects & Designers Studio in Cyprus
  • Logo and identity for private sommelier Lukas Kroesen in Zurich

Entering the Challenging U.S. Market

While Europe stands as a testament to consistency, the United States presents a testing ground for Cursor’s creativity. The studio has left its mark across multiple states with projects defined by strong identities.

In Nashville, the iconic Parthenon museum-multispace reflects Greek inspiration transformed into a contemporary American experience. In Detroit, Cursor designed merchandise and t-shirts for Born in Detroit and Kronk Boxing Gym, combining the city’s industrial DNA with authentic, locally rooted storytelling.

The University of Michigan entrusted Cursor with merchandise design that highlighted urban culture through a bold, dynamic system. Meanwhile, in New York, the Bakery project demonstrates that Greek creative excellence can thrive at the heart of the global creative capital.

Expanding to the Middle East: Cultural Sensitivity Meets Global Standards

Cursor’s reach extends beyond the West. In Abu Dhabi, the KF INC Investment Group project required a corporate identity that respects the local culture while meeting global standards of a globalized business environment. The outcome affirmed Cursor’s strategic strength: translating values, cultures, and business goals into lasting, coherent visual and verbal systems.

More Than Just a List of International Projects

Cursor Design Studio’s international journey isn’t just a portfolio of overseas work—it’s proof that Greek creative thinking can stand tall on the world stage when combined with strategy, discipline, and deep market insight. In a world where brands compete not only with products but through identity and storytelling, Cursor serves as a quiet ambassador of Greek aesthetic thought, designing not just images but enduring narratives.

A Strong Presence in the Greek Market

Despite their global reach, Cursor remains deeply committed to the Greek market. Over the past 23 years, they have created hundreds of recognizable brands and corporate identities. Their collaborators include SGT TSOMOKOS, supporting major conferences such as the Athens Energy Summit, Cyber Security Forum, The Upfront Initiative, and PRODEXPO. Another key partner is Vasili Bartzokas, the Design Ambassador, who curates many of the studio’s significant projects.

At the Heart of Cursor’s Philosophy

At the core of Cursor Design Studio lies a deeply human-centered philosophy. The studio’s manifesto states:
“We successfully complete the communication of businesses, services, and products in domestic and global markets. Each new mission is a challenge to our professionalism, talent, enthusiasm, and passion—qualities that define every aspect of our work. We approach branding as the ultimate communicative awareness and faithfully serve all its functions: name, logo, corporate identity, packaging, physical and digital promotion, and art direction.”
