War in Ukraine: We are preparing to be briefed by the U.S. on the peace plan, says the Kremlin

Politico reported that U.S. and Russian officials are expected to meet in Miami over the weekend and that the Russian delegation will include Kirill Dmitriev

The Kremlin announced today that Russia is preparing for contacts with the United States in order to receive details about U.S. talks with European powers and Ukraine regarding a possible peace settlement that would bring an end to the conflict in Ukraine.

Politico reported that American and Russian officials are expected to meet in Miami over the weekend and that the Russian delegation will include Kirill Dmitriev, the investment envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Asked about media reports regarding a meeting in Miami, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told journalists that contacts with the United States are being planned.

“We are indeed preparing certain contacts with our American counterparts in order to receive information about the results of the work the Americans have done with the Europeans and Ukraine,” Peskov noted.

The United States has held talks with Russia and separately with Kyiv and European leaders on proposals to end the war in Ukraine, but no agreement has been reached.

Putin said yesterday, Wednesday, that Russia would seize more territory in Ukraine by force if Kyiv and European politicians do not commit to the U.S. proposals for a settlement.

European leaders say they stand by Kyiv and warn that if Russia wins in Ukraine, Moscow would one day attack a NATO member. The Kremlin has repeatedly dismissed claims that Russia would attack a NATO member, calling them nonsense.

Russia controls 19.2% of Ukraine, including the Crimean Peninsula, which it annexed in 2014, as well as most of the eastern Donbas region, much of the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions, and parts of four other regions.
