Tehran said it has informed neighboring countries with American bases, from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to Turkey, of its intentions. Iran warned the regional countries that it would attack American military bases located in those countries in case of a US attack, according to statements by a senior Tehran official to Reuters, following Donald Trump’s threats to intervene amid nationwide anti-government protests.
“Tehran has informed the countries in the region, from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to Turkey, that American bases in these countries will be targeted if the US attacks Iran, asking these countries to prevent Washington from attacking Iran,” the official said. A few days ago, the Iranians had also warned Israel with strikes.
Yesterday, the American president, during a speech in Detroit, sent a message to the Iranian people to continue protesting. “To all Iranian patriots: continue to protest, occupy your institutions if possible, and reveal the names of the murderers and abusers who are harming you very badly,” he said, among other things, while earlier he had said, “Help (to you) is on the way.”
At the same time, he said he had advised US allies to withdraw from Iran: “I think they should leave, it is not a bad idea.”
