A collision between a city bus and a train caused the death of one person and injured ten others today in the port area of Hamburg, the fire brigade told Agence France-Presse.
All the victims were on board the bus. In addition to the person who was killed, the driver is “fighting for his life,” two people were seriously injured, and six others sustained minor injuries, a fire service spokesperson told AFP.
Some of the injured received first aid at the scene, while another was taken to hospital. The bus driver “was the last to be freed, as he had been trapped,” according to the same source.
The train driver was not injured.
Died at the scene from his injuries
The accident occurred in the central part of the vast port area of Hamburg, at an unguarded level crossing, “for reasons that have not yet been clarified,” police said, adding that the person who was killed “succumbed to his injuries at the scene.”
Rescue operations are continuing, while the police forensic department has been mobilized to take part in the investigation.
A reception area for the victims’ relatives has been set up at the nearest bus stop.
