The Eleftherios K. Venizelos National Research and Studies Foundation announced the death of former MP for Chania, Eleftherios Venizelos, at the age of 102. The deceased was the last surviving of Eleftherios Venizelos’ four grandchildren.
The Foundation’s administration and staff bid him farewell with deep emotion and extend their heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.

Eleftherios Venizelos was born in Athens in August 1924. His parents were Kyriakos, the eldest son of Eleftherios Venizelos, and Marika Roussou, a member of a prominent shipping family from Leros. His siblings were Nikitas Venizelos and Haris Karagianni. He married Lili Harami, and they had one daughter.

Before World War II, his family settled in France and later in the United States, where Eleftherios studied Political and Economic Sciences at Princeton and Columbia Universities. He was elected MP for Chania twice, in 1952 and 1956. After leaving politics, he became involved in the family shipping business.
He served for many years as president of the Liberal Club. He was honorary president of the Eleftherios K. Venizelos National Foundation and, in recognition of his significant contribution, was named a Grand Benefactor and Associate of the Foundation.
