The actor spoke about the far-from-romantic way he asked his wife to marry him
Chris Hemsworth opened up about his marriage proposal to Elsa Pataki and their decision to get married in general, noting that it was anything but romantic.
Speaking on the radio show Fitzy, Wippa & Kate on Monday, February 9, the actor said that their decision to marry felt more like an “agreement” than a cinematic moment. “We had talked about it even before I proposed. It was kind of like, ‘Yeah, why not?’” He said with a laugh, admitting that this approach “took all the excitement out of the build-up.”
He then added jokingly, “There was a kind of ‘Why not? I don’t have anything better to do right now, let’s see how it goes,” vibe.” Hemsworth, who has three children with the Spanish actress, hinted that Elsa Pataki still hasn’t forgotten the decidedly unromantic proposal. “I think she still thinks about it,” he said pointedly.
Even more awkward, as he admitted, was the proposal itself. Although Pataki knew it was coming, Hemsworth hid the ring inside a box of chocolates. “I had it in my pocket and thought I had to do something ‘cool.’ That was the extent of my creativity,” he noted.
The couple met in early 2010 through a mutual agent, and their relationship progressed quickly, with their wedding taking place in December of the same year. Since 2015, they have been living permanently in Australia, in a luxury home in Byron Bay, along with their three children: 13-year-old India Rose and their 11-year-old twin sons, Sasha and Tristan.
